Ford Focus HID Conversion

Modifications and Customization - Turn Signals

The "Hacked" method of HID conversion allows the use of the outermost lights in the housing as turn signals. In the Ford Racing kit, these lights have the "option" to be wired to the parking lamp assembly. This, in turn can be wired into the ignition by the supplied wires and allow for Daytime Running Lights (DRL's). This is peculiar because the original use of these lights on the Mach Audio ZTS was for the turn signal.

For those who want the full use of the outermost lights as turn signal indicators, the easiest method appears to be splicing into the turn signals located in the front of the vehicle, as what was originally done in the Hacked modification.

At the time of writing this page, Ford Racing makes a provision for the use of these lights by two small leads that extend from the main harness.

It is possible to extend wire of similar gauge from these leads to the front grille or side bumper turn signal. Remove the bulb from its holder and temporarily insert the into one of the openings leading to a coloured wire on the turn signal harness. Turn your hazard lights on. You can then determine which wire in the turn signal harness powers the "bright" ON sequence of the signal. Once that determination has been made, you can either splice into that wire or use a suitable wire tap.
